The quality of farming soil is a critical element of successful crop productivity. Naturally, soil contains various minerals and nutrients needed for plants healthy growth. Imbalance in any of this minerals can cause the soil to be too acidic or alkalized. This mineral imbalance can be caused naturally by soil having higher content certain minerals or by use of types of fertilizer used over long period to time and also when we have low level of beneficial bacteria found in organic matter.
SOIL ACIDITY
When soil has a lower pH level they become too acidic. Acidic Soil are infertile with poor plant growth due to accumulation of hydrogen (H), aluminium (Al), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) toxicities and corresponding deficiencies of plant available Phosphorous (P), molybdenum (Mo), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and potassium (K), all which negatively affect soil fertility and productivity.
AGRICULTURAL LIMING MATERIAL
Acidic soil can be control or mitigated by adding soil amendments products to neutralize the acidity and raise the soil pH level. The common soil amendment are Calcium base agricultural lime and Magnesium base Dolomitic lime. Agricultural Lime is applied depending on the soil type, soil pH level and the type of crop. The effects of Nevcal Agri lime and Dolo Lime on soil are:
